Transforming Transplant Care. Redefining What’s Possible.

At Miami Transplant Institute, we don’t just perform transplants, we transform lives. For more than 50 years, we’ve taken on the cases others won’t, combining the latest medical breakthroughs with deeply human care. As the only program in Florida offering every type of organ transplant for both adults and children, we are focused on advancing the field through continuous innovation. We were the first center in the United States to use the FDA-approved X Port Lung Preservation System, which extends the reach and timing of lung transplantation. Our team also leads in robot-assisted kidney and kidney/pancreas transplants, offers ostomy-free intestinal procedures, and has expanded liver transplant eligibility through transplant oncology. We’re not only treating disease; we’re restoring the possibility of a future.

High Volume, Deep Experience, and a Personal Approach

Miami Transplant Institute has performed more total transplants than any other center in Florida and ranks among the top five nationally. That volume translates into unmatched experience. But what sets us apart is the way we treat each case as if it were the only one: thoroughly and with enduring support long after surgery.

Innovating to Expand Hope

We’re advancing the future of transplant medicine through research, robotic surgery, and expanded eligibility. From robot-assisted kidney and kidney/pancreas procedures that reduce pain and speed recovery, to clinical trials improving donor organ preservation, we work to make transplantation possible for more people, in more places, with better outcomes.

Dual Organ Transplant
With the strength of our kidney, kidney/pancreas, liver, and lung programs, Miami Transplant Institute can offer multi-organ transplants to patients who need more than one life-saving procedure.

Donation After Circulatory Death (DCD)
Traditionally, transplants are performed after brain death (DBD—Donation after Brain Death). To expand the donor pool, we are now listing most of our patients for DCD donors as well. While we’ve not yet utilized a DCD donor, this approach represents the next frontier in making more organs available for those in need.

Two-Day Work Up (2DWU)
We offer a streamlined two-day outpatient evaluation so patients can complete all testing in just two consecutive days. This provides faster access to transplant or VAD and greater convenience. Our Miami Transplant Institute clinic, Jackson Memorial Hospital’s radiology department, VUMI International Patient Reception Center, and Lynn Rehabilitation Center work in close partnership to coordinate testing and guide patients across the Jackson Memorial Medical Center campus.

Transplant oncology: A new frontier in cancer care
Through a groundbreaking collaboration with Sylvester Comprehensive Cancer Center, we offer liver transplants to patients previously ineligible due to cancer. By pushing beyond conventional criteria, we offer new options, and new life, —for those once out of time.

When the case is rare, our team comes together
Our specialists lead the nation in multivisceral and ostomy-free intestinal transplants, delivering care that’s both technically exceptional and deeply mindful of a patient’s dignity, recovery, and long-term quality of life. From portal vein thrombosis to complex tumor cases, our teams work across disciplines to find the best path forward.

Comprehensive care for the most complex needs
We treat patients across every stage of transplant care, from those managing chronic organ failure to those in urgent need of life-saving intervention. With expertise in heart, lung, liver, kidney, pancreas, and intestinal transplants, including multivisceral procedures, we care for both adult and pediatric patients in one integrated, expert system.
